General Motors SA's preparations for the Hummer H3 left-hand-drive export vehicle, scheduled to roll off the production line in October, 2006, are well on track.
GM SA has recruited 500 new employees for Hummer production since GM's April, 2005 announcement that the H3 – the baby version of the huge H1 - would be assembled at its plant in Port Elizabeth where R600-million is being invested in tooling and upgrading facilities

The first two months' production has already been committed - a consequence of strong demand in Europe and the Middle East.
On the back of left-hand-drive production volumes forecast at 10 000 units a year will be production of the right-hand-drive models in the first quarter of 2007.
The H3, which is viewed as integral to GM SA's premium brand strategy, will be available to South African buyers through dealers in major centres.
